Freshwater Carp Farming

ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, a constituent unit of Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Fisheries University organized three days NABARD sponsored training program on Freshwater Carp Farming under Farm Sector Promotion fund -Capacity building for adoption of Technology from 12.07.2023 to 14.07.2023. Dr. A. Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator welcomed the participants of the training programme. Dr. M. Rajakumar, Director of Extension Education inaugurated and presided over the training programme. Mr. E. Hino Fernando, SMS (Fisheries Extension) delivered a lecture on overall status and current scenario of Freshwater Carp farming in India with special reference to Tamil Nadu.  Farmers were delivered lectures with experts on various aspects like Site selection, Pond construction, stocking, rearing, feeding, water quality and disease management of Carps. Farmers were given field demonstration on carp farming at Aravind Fish Farm, Manargudi. 25 farmers from Nagapattinam and neighboring districts participated and benefitted from the training programme. Certificates were distributed to the trainees.

Event: Off-campus sponsored Training Programme on Post Harvest Management & Value Addition Technology of Fish has been organized by KVK, Karaikal at Madhur. Participants: 25 Nos. (SHG’s women – 20 & EP – 5).
Training given:
i) Value addition & value addition in fisheries – an intro.
ii) Marine & Freshwater fisheries resources of Tamilnadu especially Nagapattinam district
iii) Importance of fish nutrients for human health.
iv) Role Omega-3 FA to alleviate human diseases. v) Post harvest management of fish & shellfish
vi) Scope for entrepreneurship development in value addition of fish. vii) Various type of value added products prepared from marine & fresh water fishes. viii) Value added products prepared by KVK, Sikkal.
ix) Export & marketing channel for VAFP.
x) Financial schemes offered by state & central government for ED in fish value addition.

  2. Parameters for identification of good quality fishes.
  3. Production technology of Mackerel fish bajji & Threadfin bream fish pakoda and their packaging methods.
  4. Production technology of Shrimp/Prawn bajji & Shrimp/Prawn pakoda and their packaging methods.
  5. Production technology of Threadfin bream fish soup.
  6. Production & application technology of fish acid / fish amino acid. VAF Product Displayed: 1. Fish pickle, 2. Prawn pickle, 3. Nethili karuvadu, 4. Nethili masala karuvadu 5.
