  1. World Soil Day 2022

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagapattinam organised the World Soil Day program in coordination with Department of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, Nagapattinam at KVK on 05.12.2022. In this program, created awareness among the farmers on soil health, soil health cards, problematic soils management, soil fertility and crop productivity enhancement with special focus on Natural Farming. Mr.J. Akhanda Rao, JDA, Nagapattinam headed the program and delivered the special address. Dr.A.Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK welcomed the gatherings and narrated the importance of Soil health and Soil requirements for Aquaculture. Mrs. S. Pushkala, Assistant Director of Agriculture, M.Yuvaraj, Manager, Agaas Drone service, TAFE and Mrs. R. Sarojini, Senior Agriculture Officer, Soil Testing Laboratory, Nagapattinam delivered Key note address. Soil health cards distributed to 25 farmers, Drone spray demonstration and Exhibition were also conducted in the program. Dr.V. Kannan, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) imparted the lecture on Soil health and Natural Farming. Followed by Lectures on Organic Vegetable cultivation, Eco friendly Pest and Disease Management, Value addition and Nutritional benefits of Fish were given by Subject Matter Specialists Mr.K. Ragu (Horticulture), Dr.K.Chandrasekar (Plant Protection), and Dr.A.Mathivanan (Home Science). Programme Assistants Mr. R. Vedharethinam, Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Mrs.G.Ramya were also participated and explained the programme activities to the farmers. There were about 93 farmers, 11 officials, 9 students in total 113 were participated and benefited.

  1. Celebration of Kisan Diwas- National Farmers Day 

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagapattinam organized the Kisan Diwas celebrations in coordination with Department of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, Nagapattinam by inviting 86 farmers from the district on 23.12.2022. Dr. A. Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK welcomed the gatherings and narrated the importance of the day. The program was headed by Mr.J. Akhanda Rao, Joint Director of Agriculture, Nagapattinam. In this program, the Organic farmer Mr.Shanmugasundram, Nathapallam, Thalainayar block was honoured by the Chief guest. On this occasion, KVK experts addressed the farmers on different technical lectures. Dr.V. Kannan, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) imparted the lecture on Good Agricultural practices and Natural Farming. Followed by Lectures on New Vegetable varieties, Beneficial insects, Export opportunities for Organically produced products, Aquaculture by Subject Matter Specialists Mr.K. Ragu (Horticulture), Dr.K.Chandrasekar (Plant Protection), Dr.A.Mathivanan (Home Science) and Mr. E. Hino Fernando (FE). Programme Assistants Mr. R. Vedharethinam, Mrs.G.Ramya were also participated and explained the programme activities to the farmers. Along with farmers 5 officials, 9 fisheries students were participated and celebrated the farmers day.

1.Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagapattinam organized the programme for Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2022 from 31st October 2022 to 6th November 2022 with a theme “Corruption free India for a developed Nation”. Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week started with pledge among the staff of KVK, Nagapattinam. Conducted sensitization programmes among the B.F.Sc., students and Probationary Officers, Indian Overseas Bank, Nagapattinam. Four numbers of Vigilance awareness programmes were conducted with the display of Banner. Activities on Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2022 were posted in the social media of KVK such as Twitter and Face book to create Awareness of Corruption free India for a developed Nation. In this programme, 56 nos. of participants were attended.

2. Communal Harmony Campaign:

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sikkal, Nagapattinam observed “Communal Harmony Campaign from 19.11.2022 t0 25.11.2022 and Flag day on 25.11.2022. The Communal Harmony Campaign week was celebrated among the farmers who have attended the training programme at KVK, Sikkal. In this programme, Lecture delivered about Communal Harmony, Flag Day and also Flags were distributed to the participants. Funds were collected from the participants who have attended the training programme. 40 nos. of farm women were participated.

  1. Genetic Diversity Fair and Jal Shakthi Abhiyan awareness Programme.

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sikkal, Nagapattinam and Agriculture & Farmers welfare department, Nagapattinam jointly organized district level Genetic Diversity Fair and Jal Shakthi Abhiyan awareness Program at KVK, Nagapattinam on 16.10.2022. In this program, created awareness on traditional varieties cultivation, conservation and Water management technologies, Drought, flood tolerant traditional varieties were also explained to the farmers. Dr. Arun Thamburaj, IAS, District Collector headed the program. Mr.J.Akhanda Rao, JDA welcomed the gathering. As a special invitee MLA, Kilvelur, Chairman TAHDCO, Chairman, Fisheries Development Corporation were felicitated the program. Farmers Scientists interaction, Exhibition were also conducted in the program. Dr.A.Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK given a prelude about the programme. Lectures on Traditional Varieties cultivation and water saving technologies, Pest and Disease Management, Value addition and Nutritional benefits of Traditional varieties and Fish culture were given by Subject Matter Specialists Mr.E.Hino Fernando (Fisheries Extension), Dr.K.Chandrasekar (Plant Protection), Dr.V.Kannan (Agronomy), Mr.K.Ragu (Horticulture), Dr.A.Mathivanan (Home Science), and Programme Assistants Mr. R. Vedharethinam, Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Mrs.G.Ramya were also participated and explained the programme activities to the farmers. There were about 183 farmers, 32 officials, 50 students in total 265 were participated and benefited.

  1. PM Kisan Samman Sammelan and Agriculture Start-up conclave

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sikkal, Nagapattinam organized webcasting of PM Kisan Samman Sammelan and Inauguration of Agriculture Start-up programme at KVK, Nagapattinam on 17.10.2022. In this program, Mr.J.Akhanda Rao, JDA, Nagapattinam and Dr.Sanjeevi Raj, Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, Dr.Suresh, Head, VUTRC has participated and delivered felicitation address. Dr.A.Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Nagapattinam welcomed the gathering and given a prelude about the programme. Animal health camp was also conducted. In this camp de-worming medicine given to 25 animals, Nutrional health tonic and fodder slips were distributed. Farmers Scientists interaction was carried out by Subject Matter Specialists Mr.E.Hino Fernando (Fisheries Extension), Dr.K.Chandrasekar (Plant Protection), Dr.V.Kannan (Agronomy), Mr.K.Ragu (Horticulture), Dr.A.Mathivanan (Home Science). Exhibition was also conducted in the program. About 122 farmers, 7 officials in total of 129 were participated.

  1. Exhibition – Genetic Diversity Fair and Jal Shakthi Abhiyan awareness Program.

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sikkal, Nagapattinam has put-up exhibition for Genetic Diversity and Jal Shakthi Abhiyan awareness Program organized by Department of Agriculture & Farmers welfare, Mayiladuthurai district at State Seed Farm Thirukadaiyur, Sembanarkoil on 28.10.2022. Mr.J.Sekar, JDA, Mayiladuthurai welcomed the gathering. As a special invitee Mr.Nivetha M.Murugan, MLA, Poompuhar, Mr.M.Panneerselvam, MLA, Sirkazhi, Mr.S.Rajakumar, MLA, Mayiladuthurai, Mr.S.Murugadass, District Revenue Officer and District Panchayath Chairman were felicitated the program. In this program, exhibition stall was put-up for showcasing KVK technologies and activities. Dr.V.Kannan, Subject Matter Specialists (Agronomy) imparted lectures on traditional rice varieties cultivation, conservation and Water management technologies in Agriculture to the farmers. Dr.A.Mathivanan Subject matter Specialist (Home Science) imparted lectures on value addition from traditional rice varieties and value addition in fishes. Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Programme Assistant (Technical) arranged the exhibition stall. There were about 165 farmers, 27 officials in total 192 were participated.

Tamil Nadu Irrigation Management Training Institute, Trichy and KVK, Nagapattinam jointly organized “Technical Training on Integrated Farming system in Wetland and Bio-Floc Method of Fish Farming on 20.09.2022 at KVK, Nagapattinam. Tamil Nadu Irrigation Management Training Institute, Mrs. S. Thilakavathi Associate Director presided and spoke about the objectives of the programme. Dr. A. Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK delivered the keynote address and explained about animal husbandry techniques in integrated farming system and bio-floc fish farming. Tamil Nadu Irrigation Management Training Institute Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Agriculture Mrs. C. Rajeshwari delivered the inaugural address and Irrigation management techniques. Mr.E.Hino Fernando, SMS(Fisheries Extension) trained the farmers on recirculation of waste and aquaponics technology in integrated farming. Mr. K. Ragu, SMS(Horticulture) imparted training on vegetable cultivation in integrated farming. Demonstration were conducted on animal husbandry, fish farming, goat rearing, aquaponics, beekeeping, and vermicomposting. Earlier Mrs. Ka.Kalachelvi, Associate Researcher, IMTI, gave a welcome address. Subject Matter Specialists Dr.K..Chandrasekhar, Dr.V.Kannan, Dr.A.Mathivanan, Programme Assistants Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Mr. R. Vedharethinam, Mrs.G.Ramya also participated. 40 farmers and rural youth from Nagapattinam district participated and benefited.

ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagapattinam organized awreness programme on Poshan Ma – Nutri Garden and Tree Plantation Drive on 17.09.2022 at KVK campus. Dr.A.Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator welcomed the gathering and gave importance of the Poshan Ma programme. Dr. J.Josphin Amutha, Joint Director of Health and family Welfare, Nagapattinam given special address. She emphasized all the women and pregnant ladies should be taken iron riches food for contain anemia. Awareness programme is being conducted through Integrated Child Development Scheme for curative measures on underweight new born baby and asked the participants to utilize “Vamsam” a mobile app developed by the District administration. Mrs.Selvamani, Block Development Officer, Integrated Child Development Scheme, Nagapattinam delivered key note address. Dr.A.Mathivanan, SMS (Home Science) explained about the role of minor millets in human health. Mr.K.Ragu, SMS (Horticulture) explained about the Nutri vegetables and setting up of Nutri garden. Mr.M.Pommannan, Field Officer, IFFCO explained about the Nano urea technology. In this Programme, Exhibition and tree plantation were conducted. About 120 Farm women, Anganwadi Staff were attended and benefited. Tree saplings and vegetable seed pockets were distributed to all the participants. Subject Matter Specialists Mr.E.Hino Fernando, Dr.K.Chandrasekar, Dr.V.Kannan, Programme Assistants Mr.V.Gnanabharathi, Mr.R.Vedharethinam, Mrs.G.Ramya are attended and made arrangement the programme.

Uzhavar Mugam 2022 & Training program on Organic farming &Traditional Rice Varieties Cultivation

One day training program Uzhavar Mugam 2022 on Organic farming and Traditional Rice Varieties Cultivation was jointly organized with VAANGHAI trust at KVK, Nagapattinam on 06.09.2022. The program was aimed to create awareness on cultivation and conservation of traditional rice varieties. Dr. A.Gopalakannan, Programme Coordinator, KVK welcomed the participants and given a prelude about the importance of the training program. Dr.V.Wilfred Manuel, Professor Rtd., TNAU as Chief guest and delivered his special address in the program. In his special address, he narrated the history of present varieties released from TNAU and importance of Aathur kitchali samba. During the technical sessions, Dr.R. Pushba, Asst. Professor (Plant breeding and genetics), TRRI, Aduthurai delivered lecture on ‘Kavuni varieties cultivation’. The different type of Kavuni cultures were discussed among the farmers. Dr. P. Balaguru, Associate Prof. Botany, Jamal Mohammed College, Trichy delivered special lecture on GI tagging of Traditional Rice varieties.
Agro ecological pest management was handled by Mr. L. Narayanmoorthy, ADA, Thiruvannamalai followed by Mr. P.Sethuraman, Progressive farmer, Villupuram shared his experience on Traps for pest management. Subject Matter Specialist, Dr.V.Kannan (Agronomy) handled technical session on Organic cultivation of Rice. This training programme provided a good platform for the progressive farmers to conserve and cultivate traditional rice varieties. Totally 37 nos. of participants were attended and benefitted. At the end of the programme Mr. K. Mohanraj Yadhav VAANGHAI trust delivered vote of thanks and distributed Aathur Kitchali samba 2 kgs each to the farmers to encourage cultivation of Traditional Rice varieties.
